1. CLIMB TO THE WINDMILLS
The famous windmills are the most important symbol and attraction of Bodrum, which you can visit on your own.
It offers a truly stunning view of the two most important bays of the region – Bodrum and Gumbet. This is the best place for a remarkable photo from Bodrum! St. Peter’s Castle, thousands of snow-white houses clinging to the slopes, and the bright blue sea… You will fall in love with this authentic entourage.
At the mills you can enjoy those fantastic views accompanied by Turkish coffee in small family-runned cafe. Or just relax at the grass staring at sunset/sunrise. An iconic place.
Another plus for an independent visit: Windmills can be easily reached by public transport.
2. PASS THROUGH THE MYNDOS GATE
The next important Bodrum attraction, which we recommend for an independent visit, is the Myndos Gate.
The ruins of Myndos Gate are located between Bodrum and Gumbet. They served as the main entrance to the ancient Halicarnassus (the ancient name of Bodrum) for several centuries. The gates gained its magical status in 334 BC. Then, after very mysterious negotiations with the queen of Caria, usually incredibly ruthless commander Alexander the Great did not touch a single stone, while entering the proud city through the Myndos Gate.
There are legends in Bodrum about the magic of this gate and the place of power here. Thousands of people pass through the Myndos Gate every year, making their wishes. And again, sight is very easy to get to by public transport! We strongly recommend.
